President Luis Abinader welcomed a delegation from the Japanese company Yazaki to discuss plans to invest US$90 million in a new production plant in Santiago de los Caballeros. The new factory is expected to create more than 1,500 jobs in the initial phase.
The meeting was chaired by Víctor Bisonó, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises. Representatives of Yazaki Company attended the meeting. Mr. Kenichi Fujisawa, President and CEO of Yazaki Company North America, was the leader of the meeting. Other attendees included Executive Vice President Itaru Motobayashi, Vice President of Corporate Planning and Government Affairs Manish Mehta, company special advisors Joe Carrera and Tony Sánchez, and Ambassador of Japan to the Dominican Republic Masahiro Takagi.
Yazaki Corporation is a world-renowned automotive company with nearly a century of history, specializing in the production of automotive wiring harnesses and other automotive parts for leading American and global brands. The company will operate under the Dominican Republic's free zone regime and focus on the production of electrical branches and other components.The initial phase of the factory will be located in the Pisano Free Zone in Santiago de los Caballeros, covering an area of 12,000 square meters, with the possibility of expansion to 100,000 square meters. The project is expected to create approximately 1,500 jobs, including operational and management positions.
Mr. Fujisawa highlighted Yazaki's role in producing parts for several U.S. automakers and plans to export those specific products.
